Kali is the Hindu goddess of creation, preservation and destruction; she is possibly the most misunderstood of the Hindu goddesses and is said to bring death of the ego.

We, at Kali Wellness, align with her because we understand, from personal experience, that living well with chronic illness requires a metaphorical death of our previous lifestyle; requiring a complete transformation—we need to transition from the old way of life to a new normal. With transition comes fear—fear of isolation, fear of failure, fear of not feeling well enough to actively show up for your life. Our mission is to ease this transition by providing our clients with the skills and tools to co-create their new normal. The Goddess Kali teaches us that the power to transform is not outside us, it is within us. When armed with the appropriate tools, we are all capable of healing and living our best life.
Our mission is to provide our clients with the skills and tools to co-create their new normal.
Catherine Egan, N.D. Naturopathic Doctor
My decision to pursue a career in medicine was born from a deep dissatisfaction with the patient experience.
I searched for a practitioner who would spend the time, ask the hard questions to get to the root of my complaints. I came up short time and time again. I decided that I wanted to be the kind of doctor that I was searching for. I turned to naturopathic medicine because of one of the basic tenets of the practice: doctor as teacher and first do no harm.
I attended National University of Naturopathic Medicine. This education taught me to look at medicine differently, to take the time to ask the hard questions and see the relationship between lifestyle, diet and illness. I learned to treat the whole person rather than the symptoms. Since graduation I have been teaching college level anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology in addition to practice. The teaching has allowed me to deepen my knowledge of the body and reinforced my conviction that the choices we make influence our health.
For the past few years I have been doing advanced training in functional medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine. This has deepened my appreciation for the fact that every one of us has a story, and our unique stories provide insight into the root of our health challenges. It is at the root, the true healing can occur. I have traveled my own path as a patient once again after a diagnosis of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I appreciate the challenges of living with an autoimmune disease and juggling a busy life; it is a grueling and uphill battle.
I appreciate the challenges of living with an autoimmune disease and juggling a busy life. My ultimate goal is to ease this burden for my patients; to use my functional medicine toolbox to help uncover the root cause of their disease and then give them actionable steps to move through the processes of creating their new normal.
My personal healing journey led me to Functional Medicine + Dr. Egan.
Diagnosed with Hashimoto’s at the age of 10, my illness had been piloting me for the majority of my life until I was finally able to re-establish homeostasis a few years ago. In 2012 I was living a vegan lifestyle and had started cosmetology school, where I was exposed to a wide range of chemical based products. The environment I found myself working in and the diet I was consuming soon began to wreck my skin and deplete my energy levels to such a degree that I was unable to stay awake after work each day. I became dependent on my family and social circle to cook my food, pack my lunches, and make sure that I was able to simply get through the day. I thought I was doing everything I could to be proactive, but realized I sill needed to make some sort of change. Though I continued with my program and graduated, I still didn't understand why I had rashes all over my body and sores on my face.
My immune system had lost all tolerance for the environmental toxins in the hair products I was handling at work. Nonetheless, I kept working in this toxic environment until I ended up with Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) in Dr. Habib Sadeghi's office. He was the first physician to enlighten me that our life story can have a huge impact on our body’s health. Together, we decided that I needed to be removed long-term from the chemicals I was using at work; coming up with a protocol that enabled me to work minimally while pursuing my education to become an RN.
Currently, I am beginning a Functional Medicine Health-Coach Training program to achieve some clinical experience and decide if I want a bigger role in the world of healing. So, this is the path that has lead me to create Kali Wellness. I pride myself in being a natural entrepreneur who has been able to forge a whole new healthy vision for my life and build up a team of healers for myself that I now want to share with others who are struggling as I did. At Kali Wellness I strive to create a safer center for learning and healing.
Here, I hope to take the extra work that I was initially forced to sort through on my own, and make healing an easier journey for others than it was for me.
